I know... I'm almost tempted to drive over to where she is, since it's only about a 90 minute drive.
There is a book by Barb Rogers titled Instant Period Costumes: How to make classic costumes from cast-off clothing. It is fabluous for making realistic looking costumes using clothing you can find at thrift stores and sales or just a length of fabric.
I made my Halloween costume this year from an old white sheet, a white bedskirt someone gave me, a couple of yards of cheap white satiny polyester and a white corset I bought online. I used permanent hem tape because it was faster than sewing.

I am going to look for that book! I can't think of any sites right off hand, but I am sure that some will come to me later.

There is a blog, www.everythingyourmamamade.com and she post TONS of tutorials during december, and I mean tons! She has a lot for twirly skirts and dresses and whatnots for little girls, and most look pretty easy, cause I am not a natural born seamstress :)
